2021 was a year of change for many large, multinational organizations like Salesforce, Twitter, Amazon, and Intel. A study from Heidrick & Struggles found that 76 CEOs were appointed in the first half of the year, 22% more than the next highest year of turnover for CEOs, 2018.

The top CEO moves of 2021 are ranked by market cap and find that on average, those appointed to the top spot spent 11.6 years at the same organization. 17% of these CEOs were appointed externally, only 3% are a part of the BoardEx Diversity Network and only 9% are female.

These 2021 CEOs have a lot to focus on as they take their companies forward. According to the Fall Installment of the 2021 Fortune/Deloitte CEO Survey, CEOs are focused on attracting and retaining top talent as well as setting their organization up to make a positive impact on climate.
